Three Marshfield Clinic Health System Outpatient/Ambulatory Surgery Centers were recognized in Newsweek’s America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2023 list released this week. Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield was ranked third, Marshfield Clinic Wausau Center was ranked sixth and Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua came in seventh of the top eight surgery centers recognized in Wisconsin.
The America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2023 list highlights the nation’s top ambulatory surgery centers based on quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations, relative to in-state competition. The rankings are based on recommendations by medical professionals: medical doctors or surgeons, registered nurses, nursing assistants, therapists and staff working in the management or administration in surgery centers. The survey included evaluating quality measures such as quality of surgical care, follow up care and waiting time.
There are more than 5,000 Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery centers around the country in all the major surgical specialties including, orthopedic surgery, cardiac surgery, eye surgery, spinal surgery and more.
Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield
Marshfield is recognized for a second year with a previous ranking in 2021. Melissa Jakobi, outpatient surgery manager, attributes this achievement to her hard working and experienced staff. “These senior staff help to build and foster the same work ethic in our new staff to support our patients, surgeons and department,” she said.
Marshfield’s Outpatient Surgery Center provides care in the following specialties: Ophthalmology, Orthopedics (including total joint replacement), ENT, General Surgery, Plastics, Urology and Pain Management. “I am so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful team who is absolutely deserving of having their hard work recognized,” Jakobi said. “The last couple of years we’ve had many changes, but our patient care has not changed. It has and will remain our top priority.”
Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua Surgery Center
Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua Surgery Center opened in 2020 when the hospital was built. Surgical Services includes infusions, deliverance of blood transfusions, cardioversions and assists with interventional radiology. The most common specialties are general surgery, gynecological procedures, orthopedic surgeries, urology, pain injections, podiatry, ophthalmology and ENT. Surgical Services has a team-centered atmosphere with a focus of providing patient care in a caring, warm and safe environment. “We work together and place the patient and their sponsors first,” said Darcy McEnroe, surgical services manager. “Our team approach transcends onto the patients and the care they receive.”
This has reflected on patient experience as patients often comment after procedures that they feel they are treated like an individual in comparison to experiences they have had at other facilities where care was less personalized.
Marshfield Clinic Wausau Center Ambulatory Surgery Center
Wausau Center Ambulatory Surgery Center provides a variety of procedures, but the highest volumes annually come from orthopedic surgery, cataract surgery, GI procedures and pain procedures. “This recognition truly shows that the surgery center staff care deeply about our patients and the care they provide,” said Desiree Younger, ambulatory surgery manager. “Our staff excels in teamwork, putting our patients at the top of their priorities and doing their best in their job everyday which results in the excellent care our patients receive.”
