Never let anything dull your sparkle: One young patient’s story

In fourth grade, Lakken Burzynski’s teachers noticed big changes in her writing and school work. Instead of getting better, they noticed she was getting worse throughout the year.

That was the first sign something was wrong. After multiple tests and scans, doctors at Marshfield Children’s found a medulloblastoma – a cancerous brain tumor at the base of her skull.

Lakken spent more than a year in and out of Marshfield Children’s Hospital undergoing surgery and chemotherapy.

During this time, she captured the hearts of staff with her infectious attitude and outlook on life. She was living by her mantra to, “Never let anything dull your sparkle.”
