Winter weather tips for parents and kids

There’s no telling what’s to come when winter begins, which is why winter outside safety is important.

Regardless, kids need playtime, reminds Dr. Keith Pulvermacher, a pediatrician at Marshfield Clinic Health System.

Activity is important all year round. The snow and cold don’t have to keep your kids inside if you follow some safety tips.

Winter outside safety guide – temperature, sports and clothing

Most days, your kids are safe to play outside as they like.

Temperatures between 0 and 20F can get very cold. As a precaution, you may want to keep your kids inside or ask them to come in and warm up every half hour. Check that their hands and toes are not too cold and their clothes are still dry.

Follow this guide when deciding whether it’s safe to send your child outside for the age-appropriate activities highlighted.
