Marshfield Medical Center-Weston earns Primary Stroke certification
Marshfield Medical Center-Weston recently earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Primary Stroke Certification. This is a major accomplishment and a first for the facility.
“With a stroke, time lost is brain lost,” said Dr. Marie Tomasi, Marshfield Clinic Health System neurologist. “Every minute is critical to minimize the long-term effects of a stroke. The quicker treatment is provided, the better the chance of a good outcome.”
To become certified, the facility recently underwent a rigorous onsite review. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewer also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
After the review, the Weston Hospital was commended for its commitment to community involvement, culture of safety and systemic approach to stroke care.

“Stroke care is an important area of emphasis to serve patients in our region. This certification award is a recognition of the commitment of our stroke team to offer advanced stroke care, close to home when minutes matter,” said Dr. Brian Hoerneman, Interim Executive Vice President for Care Delivery.
