Four steps to ankle injury recovery

When an ankle sprain occurs, the first step towards recovery is first-aid treatment using M.I.C.E., a series of treatments that include motion, ice, compression and elevation designed to reduce swelling in the ankle.

After ankle pain and swelling have receded, usually within five to seven days, recovery exercises should focus on:

  1. Range of motion
  2. Strength
  3. Balance
  4. Return to play

This video series provides exercises and advice to help you recover from an ankle injury. If at anytime you experience pain while doing the recovery exercises in these videos, stop the exercises and see your athletic trainer or sports medicine provider. Visit our Youtube channel for more videos.
